Light heals

DTU Fotonik co-hosted a conference on the topic of light and health on November 22nd, 2011. The audience consisted mainly of health professionals of all kinds. They were there to learn as well as to share their own knowledge.

Light which improves health and welfare in the Hospital Sector – a conference on light and health

This timely conference addressed issues that are facing hospital developers right now. In the coming years, the Danish regions will spend roughly DKK 41 billion on building new hospitals. The issue of lighting is an unavoidable factor in planning hospitals in which patients as well as staff will thrive.

Light heals and also liberates hospital resources

The investment in new lighting systems is far outweighed by the benefits in terms of healing processes that are quietly helped along by lighting as well as a healthier working environment for the staff. Also, the work burden of the staff is significantly lessened by the effects on the patients of the new lighting systems.

Disseminating and collecting information

The purpose of the conference was twofold: 1. to inform interested parties in the hospital and health sector of the most recent developments in lighting and 2. to ask them – in a workshop which took place in the afternoon - for input and ideas for future developments of lighting in hospitals. It was a very fruitful workshop which resulted in many ideas, possibilities and new connections.

The conference was fully booked - with 120 participants representing all interested parties within ‘lighting in the future hospital’. It was arranged by DTU Fotonik in collaboration with Danish Building Research Institute at Aalborg University, Dansk Lys Innovationscenter, and FI.
