The Networks & Service Platforms Group

In the network technology and service platform group we are working within a wide range of aspects related to large communication infrastructures. Such as:

  • Communication Network Design
  • Broadband Access and Home networks (Wireline and Wireless)
    Reliable “high capacity” transport networks
  • Resource Management
  • Network Interoperability
  • Communication software architectures and performance
  • Broadband/Multimedia Applications
  • High Speed/Capacity Switching
  • Network Elements for All-Optical Networks

Most of our research is related to external funded projects, either national or international and usually in collaboration with companies in order to ensure a clear innovative exploitation path. Currently the “Networks” group is involved in the following project with external funding:

  • ICT ALPHA (together with “Metro access” group)
    • Fixed-wireless convergence, fiber network for home and access
  • ICT BONE
    • Studies on broadband optical networks
  • COST 703
    • Traffic metrics and measurement techniques (started in 2009)
  • HTF – 100G ethernet
    • Network and network node design for 100G Ethernet (started in 2009)
  • COST IC0804
    • Energy efficiency of large scale system
  • ICT – Daphne (together with “High speed optical systems”)
    • In flight optical networks
  • HTF – Standard Agnostic Intelligent Radio system for High Capacity Wireless Internet
