The Drawing Tower now has a new oven which can reach 1000 degrees celsius. This makes it possible to draw optical fibers of soft glasses, which are able to guide in the infrared and have a non-linearity up to a factor of 1000 times that of Silica. The new oven was funded by an HTF project on the development of High-power 2-4 micron infrared supercontinuum light sources in which the Fibers Sensors & Supercontinuum Group is participating.
