Egon Bech Hansen
Head of Department

The Department of Systems Biology (DTU Systems Biology) is a scientific community to which all members contribute teaching and research activities that aim to meet national and international demands for development of sustainable and competitive processes for use within the biotechnology field and the food industry.

Our fundamental and unique strategy is based on the idea of mastering the entire biotechnological process from genes to finished goods.

Our activities span from teaching and research in fundamental biological problems within cellular mechanisms, evolution and biological diversity, to industrially related processing within fermentation and food production.

The particular strength of the Department of Systems Biology - nationally as well as internationally - is that teaching and research activities originate from the integrated use of expertise in disciplines such as molecular biotechnology, genetics, biochemistry, microbiology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, bioinformatics, and chemical techniques.

The Department of Systems Biology educates candidates and researchers who achieve excellent professional skills and human competencies. The character of our training qualifies them to work on complex problems of research and development within subject areas as biology, biotechnology, and food technology.
