How to apply for a residence permit
Nordic Citizens
Students from Nordic countries need no residence permit.
Non-EU/EEA residents
You should apply for a residence permit before coming to Denmark.
From 1 January 2011 onwards, foreign nationals are required to pay a processing fee for the processing of their residence permit application. A residence permit is required for foreign nationals wishing to pursue further studies in Denmark.
Please note that the applicant is responsible for paying all bank fees in relation to the bank transfer of the processing fee. If the exact fee is not received by the Danish Immigration Service this will cause delay in the evaluation of your application.
Further information on who is required to pay and how to make the payment can be found on the Danish Immigration Service website:

As a non EU/EEA resident you must register with the local municipality within 5-8 days of arriving to Denmark (see further information on how to register here).
EU/EEA residents
Students from EU/EEA countries need a residence permit if your stay exceeds three months.
During the introduction week State Administrators will visit DTU.
To this session you must bring your admission letter from DTU a passport and two photographs of yourself.
If you cannot attend this session you can also apply for a residence permit at Stadsforvalningen.
