General description
The Master of Science in Environmental Engineering aims to provide students with the skills to develop sustainable solutions to complex environmental problems while taking into account social, legal, economic and resource issues. The degree is research-based and focuses on the technical and environmental sciences.
This is a broad, interdisciplinary and applied degree with the opportunity to specialise in many different types of environmental problems. These specialisations include methods for dealing with waste and sewage from cities or industry or for decontaminating soil and groundwater. Methods and tools for reducing the environmental impact of industry can be investigated. Questions relating to the use of natural resources, for example groundwater resources and drinking-water production, can be considered. Courses can be taken in environmentally sustainable manufacturing, town planning, occupational health and safety, environmental regulation and environmental management. The degree provides the opportunity to study the most up-to-date technologies employed in the developed world and to examine the challenges faced by developing countries.
The degree prioritises the student’s understanding of the physical, chemical and biological processes that underlie the environmental problems facing society. You will work on experimental projects and gain insight into processes through mathematical models or statistical analysis of measured data. You will learn problem-solving techniques intended to avoid or minimise environmental impact.
In addition to the regular MSc programme, an elite module and an honours track are available to outstanding applicants. These programmes are designed to prepare candidates for a future career in research, and students are mentored by leading international researchers in environmental engineering.
DTU is also involved in several international double degree programmes in environmental engineering with leading European universities.
