DTU’s students are very often able to contribute to the high-tech development of businesses. In this connection, private and public sector businesses have the opportunity of establishing a collaboration with DTU concerning student training service and business projects.
In our experience, businesses as well as students benefit greatly from this kind of collaboration as both parties often gain more from the relationship than expected.
Student training service for Bachelors of Science in Engineering
The collaboration may be in the form of student training service where the student works for six months in the business on the same terms as the other employees. The student performs relevant tasks and participates in the daily routines at the workplace.
In practice, the business contacts the relevant department at the university, and subsequently the business together with a teacher from DTU agree on the contents, scope, objective, etc. of the assignment.
Business projects
Business projects consist of a wide range of different projects where the main part is an engineering-related project assignment. The difference between a business project and student training service is that in connection with a business project, the student does not necessarily perform the work at the business’ premises. At the same time, a business project gives credit points in relation to the study programme and as a result there are study-related requirements both to the project and the actual report.
Whether or not the business chooses to collaborate through a student training service arrangement or a business project, the business has a chance to have specific engineering-related tasks solved, and in addition to the academic benefits, the student gains insight into what it means to work as an engineer.
